Now, without further ado, let’s dive into this month’s exciting agenda.
In the first edition of Talking Golf Travel, you’ll learn about:
Royal Portrush is the only venue outside mainland Britain to host The Open Championship.
But that might be about to change.
The Irish government has committed €40 million to support the bid of Portmarnock Golf Club to stage the world’s oldest major.
Furthermore, the iconic links in north Dublin aims to hold the AIG Women’s Open.
Portmarnock could host The Open Championship by 2030.
Meanwhile, the women’s tournament may hit the Irish capital as early as 2028.
But Portmarnock must address infrastructural and routing requirements before the R & A greenlights its bid.
So watch this space for updates.
Until then, see where a round at Portmarnock sits a golf trip to Ireland’s ancient east coast.
Just in case you needed another reason to book a golfing getaway to Aberdeenshire – you’ve got one now.
And you can thank the team at Trump International, Scotland.
The 5-star resort announced that its second championship links will open for play next summer.
Apparently, the new MacLeod Course features the ‘largest sand dunes’ in Scotland.
Trump International is already home to an epic coastal course along the bracing North Sea.
Hence The Greatest 36 Holes in Golf billing.
The McLeod, which looks stunning, sits alongside its sister links atop a lunar-like beach.
So that’s two modern masterpieces in one sublime Scottish setting.
Actually, Kyle Berkshire has won the World Long Drive Championship three times.
The resident of Orlando, Florida also set records for ball speed.
He once clocked a hair-raising 246.1 mph.
But Kyle showcased a subtler side during an unforgettable round almost 4,000 miles from home.
See how he scored – 300 feet above the crashing Atlantic – at the electrifying Old Head Golf Links.
You play on the edge in Ireland’s stunning Southwest, literally.
Every venue, no matter how prestigious, craves a spot on the World’s 100 Greatest Golf Courses.
You’ll notice a distinct pattern in the Golf Digest rankings for 2024-25.
The links of Ireland and Scotland account for almost one-third of the list.
Including 8 of the top 10.
You can play 7 of those cracking courses, plus 21 others that made the final cut, with Irish Golf Tours:
Golf Digest also ranked its top 25 courses in the Republic of Ireland.
Use the list as inspiration for your bucket-list Irish golf tour itinerary.
It’s the stuff of dreams.
You’ll find must-play links including Dooks, Royal Dublin, Rosapenna, Rosses Point, Ballyliffin, and Lahinch.
Speaking of which…
You can’t put a price on a great caddie.
The best ones wear many hats.
Historian. Guide. Comedian. Coach.
Take, for example, Neil Kennedy Walsh of Lahinch Golf Club.
The third-generation looper steered Tom Coyne of The Golfer’s Journal through a round at the Old Course.
And Neil was a fountain of facts and anecdotes.
Did you know?
Only two holes remain of Old Tom Morris’ original design from 1892.
Fittingly, they arrive back-to-back on the 4th (Klondyke) and 5th (Dell).
At Irish Golf Tours, we always tell our guests who hit Lahinch to prepare for Blind Hookey – the rollercoaster 7th hole.
You’ve probably had countless daydreams about playing the iconic Old Course at St Andrews.
After all, it’s the ultimate golfing pilgrimage.
The world-famous Links Clubhouse sits just off its second fairway.
And St Andrews Links Trust has revealed its plan to upgrade and expand the support hub for golfers and visitors.
This includes:
By the way, the Links Clubhouse also serves the New and Jubilee courses at St Andrews.
Why are we telling you this?
Because you can easily forget that the stunning 741-acre property features 6 other exquisite layouts.
