Scotland's most underrated golf courses

Why do some incredible golf courses get overlooked?

Oftentimes, it’s a matter of location.

Remote places, even golfer paradises like the majestic Scottish Highlands, tend to fly under the radar.

So, it’s no surprise the region dominates this mouthwatering list of lesser-known courses complied by Scotland Where the Game Began.

‘I may have designed the front nine, but surely god designed the back nine.’

Arnold Palmer and the Almighty certainly created something heavenly at Tralee Golf Club.

Still, even the divine duo’s captivating links course needs the occasional upgrade. So, over the winter, the club revamped the layout of the par-5 18th.

And the new and improved Goat’s Hole looks absolutely incredible.

See for yourself.

Everyone who loves the game of golf owes him an unpayable debt.

He is the mastermind behind legendary links like St Andrews, Royal County Down, Lahinch, Royal Dornoch, and Rosapenna.

But how well do you know the Father of Golf?

Old Tom’s ears must be burning from those fairways in the sky.

Because Robert MacIntyre, as reported by bunkered, named Royal Dornoch among his must-play courses.

Imagine that:

Even the Scottish Open champion has yet to visit all the top venues in his homeland, including the one-of-a-kind Brora Golf Club.

The Colt Championship Links plays exactly how it looks.

Eccentric routing and a wonderful variety of unique holes ensure non-stop entertainment from start to finish.

But stay sharp.

Tricky undulations, bunkers, burns, dunes, and raised plateau greens demand your fullest attention.

Finally, some trivia.

Padraig Harrington, Shane Lowry and Rory McIlroy won next month’s West of Ireland Championship at Sligo.
